Was recently in town and had a chance to pop over to see the Atomic Testing Museum on a lunch hour. Very well done and laid-out. Sorry I didn't have more time, but I will be back - for sure!

As a side note, I'm a health physicist, and grew up outside Troy, NY. As you may know, the Troy - Albany area had (I believe) the highest documented fallout / wash-out event of the fission products from a shot in late April 1953 at NTS. The event was well documented by one Dr. Clark, a radiochemist at RPI, who noted the increse in background in his lab. I was fasinated to see one of Dr. Clark's hand-held ionization chambers on display.

This is an important aspect of American history, I'm very glad to see it so well documented and displayed.

Regards,
Dave Allard

I was stationed at Indian Springs AFB from April 1960 To 1963. I worked as an Air Policeman, Chaplins assistant and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. I lived in the trailer park at Indian Springs AFB. The jets that flew thru the atomic clouds were washed down behind the maintence compound. We set up targets for the fighter jets from Nellis AFB. We could feel the ground shake whenever there was a atomic bomb set off. I haven't had a chance to see the museum but would like to visit it one day. They use to have a fire power demonstration one range one at the base. If they still have this I would like to know the date. I would like to hear from anyone stationed at Indian Springs during these years.

Hello! During the last Labor Day weekend, my family and I visited the Atomic Testing Museum where we spoke with Layton O'Neill. Layton worked with my father, Alfred Neumann for many years while both worked for DOE. During the museum visit, I asked for Layton's email address which his wife cheerfully provided, but alas - now I can't turn it up.

So, I'm asking that this message be forwarded to one of the O'Neill's in hopes that I'll receive a reply with their address. I'm sure that my father would truly enjoy being able exchange email with Layton -- they are sure to share many memories of their Test Site days.

My email address is [email protected] --and-- I'll look forward to your reply!

Many Thanks,

Message:
Late June of this year I found the site for the Atomic Testing Museum. I contacted the museum, telling them I had made a scrap book about the Atomic Bomb, for a history class in 1946. I received an A plus for it. The scrapbook pages were starting to deteriorate, but the articles were ok, after almost 50 years. I received an email back from VANYA SCOTT, She contacted me, & I told her what I had, Vanya stated that the museum would love to have the scrapbook, & I was willing to donate it to the museum, knowing it would be taken better care of than I could give it, after almost 50 years. Before sending it to the museum I contacted a local newspaper, they did a write up with a picture. After the interview, with the reporter, & photographer, I packaged up the scrapbook very carefully & sent it to the museum. The article was published July 4, 2005. Another article was published, in another paper, & again I was contacted by another local paper, & they are doing another write up. Something like this can & did send chills thru a person. Now knowing that my scrapbook, hopefully, be seen many years from now, & my name will also be seen, very thrilling. Thru this article I was contacted by a person that was at the testing site for 6 detonations, & something called BUSTER JANGLES. We are going to meet at the end of this month, as James lives close by. A little side note, looking under some of the articles, there is a lot of history there also.

I am glad I kept my scrapbook, & didn't throw it away. These last few weeks have been a very exiting time in my life, at 74 years old.

On our next visit to LAS VEGAS you have to know a very important stop will be the Museum.

Hello All,
I am the daughter of an NTS employee, and visited the ATM on May 2, 2005. There we ran into a former co-worker of his, and he kindly guided us through the museum. I have always had a huge respect for my father's job there, but never fully understood the whole of it all. I can now say "I get it, Dad" and mean it as much as one who never lived it can.

My father is Jim Marshall. My mother is Sally Marshall, both they and my uncles and aunts all worked at the NTS in different parts. My Aunt Dorothy Marshall, Sue Marshall Moore Nicol, Uncle David A. Marshall, Charles E. "Chuck" Marshall, and my grandpa William "Bill" Leroy Marshall all had a hand in the test site in the late 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's.

I can honestly say, I have never been prouder of my heritage than I am after seeing that museum. As a tribute to all of our family members who served there, and died as a result of exposure (Uncle Dave) A brick is being bought with their names for the Walk of Fame.

God Bless each and every one of you who worked there and continue to work there.

With Sincere Respect and Admiration,
Nancy Marshall

I was happy to find that the newly dedicated Science and Technology Building was bestowed to Frank H. Rogers. Having said this brings back many memories of my association with Frank. I was employed at the Nevada Test Site in the fall of 1951 with Haddock Engineers, Ltd., which was subsequently renamed The Nevada Company before being transferred to REECo. It was at that time that I had the pleasure of meeting Frank Rogers as the manager of REECo. I found him to be one of the most straight-forward and energetic managers I have ever met. He helped me a great deal in my early days at NTS and as a result, we became good friends.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't look back on my long career at NTS and as Base Support Manager in Las Vegas, that I do not think of the fond memories and friendships I had through all those years. In being interviewed in 1951 regarding my employment at NTS, I was given a guarantee that the work would only last from 6 to 8 weeks during this initial construction period. In retrospect, I retired in 1990, encompassing 42 years of my career, and thought that was the longest 8 weeks of my life! ha ha!

Paulette and I moved to central Florida in 1996, in an area where one of the largest horse breeding industries presides. It's beautiful here. We would like to hear from old acquaintances who wish to reminisce about the good old days at NTS.

Sincerely,
Ed and Paulette Weaver

Just wanted to say hello to all my old acquaintances and coworkers that were there at the site from '78 to '82. Those were the most exciting and fullfilling days of my life.

Hi Patty - great to know you're still around. Are you in Las Vegas? I am, and have come back to NTS and Bechtel (last year). I know that Irene would love to know where you are - do you have email?

I'm trying to find information on aircraft associated with the NTS. Documents, photos, and eyewitness accounts are appreciated.

Although I have some documentation related to the B-17 Yucca Lady in Areas 7 & 6, Regulus II in Area 27, P-47 in Areas 7 & 15, and the XF-90 in Areas 7,6,& 11, I know that there are additional photos and stories.

Please feel free to share your info so that I may put a consolidated history together.

Thanks!

I am pleased to see that someone is not protesting the history of the Cold War but actually wanting to preserve it. It makes me proud to be in this nation's military and to see such pride in our heritage, even if it does hurt other humans, it is still history and many sacrificed for it. Thank you!

I can only echo the feelings posted by Tom, The cold war was both Thrilling and terrifying (esp pre INF/CFE treaties here in Europe), I can only hope that I can get over to the US soon to visit.(NTS and Trinity Tour as well of course )
