Historical Foundation Receives
Early Christmas Present
The Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation is pleased to announce the receipt of a $500,000 donation from George R. Wackenhut.
In accepting the gift, Foundation Chairman and President, Troy Wade, stated, We could not be more pleased that George has chosen to support our efforts in preserving the history of the Nevada Test Site.
The Wackenhut name has long been synonymous with the test site, added Wade. This was one of the first government contracts they had as a new security company. Mr. Wackenhuts contribution to the museum is an example of his dedication to the program and the nation.
This contribution and one provided by Dorothy Grier in memory of Herbert Grier, one of the founders of EG&G, as well as appropriations obtained by Senator Harry Reid, will further development of world class exhibits in the Foundations museum. The museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, will be located in the Desert Research Institutes Science and Technology Building in Las Vegas.
The museum is scheduled for opening in early 2004.
The Nevada Test Site Historical Foundations mission is to preserve the more than 50 years of artifacts and history of the Nevada Test Site. In addition, the Foundation is committed to recognizing the efforts of the more than 100,000 men and women who contributed to the effort that led to the end of the cold war.
Those wishing to donate memorabilia or to make contributions to the foundation may call 702-895-0532 for details.
